COGNIZANCE Drops New Single A Game of Proliferation, Album In Light, No Shape Out May 1

Leeds, UK – Progressive Death Metallers, COGNIZANCE, just dropped “A Game of Proliferation,” their second single from the upcoming album, In Light, No Shape. The band partnered with Metal Injection for the video premiere, giving fans an early listen to what’s coming.

The full record, In Light, No Shape, is set to arrive May 1 via Willowtip Records. This follows their critically acclaimed 2024 LP, Phantazein.

COGNIZANCE are four LPs deep and have a slew of EPs to their name. They aren’t slowing down on delivering inventive riffs and sharp grooves. In Light, No Shape is a strong Progressive Death Metal album. It’s rich in texture and atmospheric detail, giving long-time listeners what they want while nodding to the mid-90s technical extremity of bands like Death, Extol, and Meshuggah. For this one, the band decided against typical modern extreme production. Instead, they went for a more organic and visceral mix that helps sharpen their sound.

This album also marks the first lineup change for the band in ten years. They’ve sharpened from a quintet to a quartet. Founding guitarist Alex Baillie has stepped up as vocalist while still playing guitar, after founding vocalist Henry “Big Mac” Pryce left in 2023.

“This record is a defining milestone for us. Taking on vocals has pushed us to re-engineer how we experiment with the blend of elements in our sound, unlocking new creative pathways to compliment the core identity of the band. What you will hear are four dudes all adding their flavours to the melting pot to create a body of work that felt completely natural to us.”

– Alex Baillie (Vocals/Guitar)
