Cyprus’s progressive metal outfit JOAKEM just released a new single, “Origins,” available today, April 17th. This track is the first taste of their upcoming full-length album, for which release details are still under wraps.
“Origins” is streaming now on all major platforms. And the band also dropped an official music video for the single. Check it out below.
The single acts as the opening chapter of the new album’s story. JOAKEM’s upcoming work is a concept album focusing on nature and survival, exploring how morality emerges when sentience enters the picture.
“On a barren alien world, the land rages against itself – volcanoes tearing open the crust, superstorms scouring the skies, asteroids carving fire across the surface, and a climate that knows no mercy. Yet from the heavens a fallen comet delivers something fragile: microscopic life. Tiny single cells scattered across the hostile world, and against all odds, they begin to spread and grow.”
The band explains that in nature, there’ss no good or evil, just the drive to survive. But when conscious beings are involved, survival gets complicated. Awareness brings choice, and with choice, the lines between necessity and cruelty can blur. However, the story also highlights the ability of conscious beings to recognize these boundaries and strive for unity and evolution beyond primal impulses.
The single was mixed by Philip Zilfo and mastered by Acle Kahney (TESSERACT) at 4D Sounds. Artwork is by Remedy Art Design, and the band logo by Axel Sord.

About JOAKEM
Led by composer, vocalist, and keyboardist Stelios Ioakim, JOAKEM delivers a powerful progressive metal sound. They blend atmospheric depth, melodies, and rhythmic complexity. The band includes Bob Saganas on guitars, Nakis Kyriakou on drums, and Miguel Trapezaris on bass.
Stelios Ioakim, a classically trained pianist, began his musical journey in 2009. He gained wider recognition as a finalist in The Voice of Greece (2018).
JOAKEM formed in 2018, releasing singles “The Path” and “Generation Z,” followed by their debut 8-track full-length, “Mind Matter.” They’ve since become a full live band, performing at various venues and festivals. They’re currently working on a new studio album and more music videos, evolving their progressive sound.
