Pennsylvania deathcore outfit The Last Ten Seconds of Life (TLTSOL) just released a new video for their track “Rat Trap.” The song features a guest appearance by Nate Johnson (ex-Fit For An Autopsy) and comes from their new full-length album, The Dead Ones, which officially dropped today on Metal Blade Records.
“Rat Trap” gives fans another look at the intensity found on The Dead Ones. And this record is a heavy one.
The Album: The Dead Ones
This Metal Blade Records debut features ten tracks of pulverizing deathcore. Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland of Pennsylvania’s Atrium Audio produced it, focusing on guitar, bass, and drum tones to get a specific sound. Guitarist Wyatt McLaughlin described it as “a super-thick sonic output and ‘rolling-tank’-like feel.”
The Dead Ones includes other guest spots too:
- David Simonich (Signs Of The Swarm) on “Make It To Heaven”
- Alan Grnja (Distant) on “Dollar To A Dime”
- Original TLTSOL vocalist Storm Strope on “XXXXXXXXXX”
Critical Reception & Behind the Brutality
Critics are digging the new material. Metal Noise called the album “darker than the depths of hell when the fires no longer burn,” and “arguably the most ferocious THE LAST TEN SECONDS OF LIFE have offered in recent times.” New Transcendence noted that “The Dead Ones stands as an immense and strong entry to their robust discography.” And Black Angel Promotions accurately summed it up: “The album is heavy at the beginning, heavy in the middle, and heavy in the end. It’s ten songs of constant brutality in the best way…each song stands on its own.”
McLaughlin shared that the band built a clear game plan for the songwriting, looking at past work and how fans connected with their music. For gear, they used a six-string baritone Viper from ESP-LTD tuned to Drop F, a tuning they last hit on their 2012 Warpath EP. They also used an Earthquaker Devices Sunn O))) and Keeley Octa Psi drop tune pedal on certain sections to amp up the intensity.
