Voidthrone Returns with ‘Dreaming Rat’, Stream “First Blood” Now

Seattle’s dissonant blackened death metal quartet, Voidthrone, is back with a new record. Their upcoming album, Dreaming Rat, drops on May 8, and they’ve just premiered the first single, “First Blood.”

“First Blood” is a dissonant death metal track that mutates into a blackened, intense collapse. You can stream it exclusively over at Toilet ov Hell right now.

Dreaming Rat is structured as a three-part cosmic death ritual. It follows parallel arcs: a solar system burning out, a civilization collapsing, and a parasite spreading. The band traded some of their previous atmospheric murk for a more immediate, frenetic mix this time around. Expect a closer, sharper, and meaner sound.

Vocalist Zhenya Frolov is delivering his most intense performance yet on this album, moving through death-metal lows, black-metal shrieks, and ritualistic howls. The album is a spiraling journey toward extinction, inviting listeners to drift calmly through the chaos, like the dreaming rat on the album’s cover.

“Frantic death metal that feels like the bugs that always crawl under your skin.”

– Herman (Bandcamp Review)
