Finnish extreme metal crew AGARWAEN just hit us with a new music video for “God Complex.” This track is another taste of their upcoming full-length, “The Murder Trend,” due out July 3rd, 2026, on Over The Border Records.
This isn’t their first rodeo; they dropped a video for “Circo De La Muerte” a while back. But “God Complex” sets the stage for what “The Murder Trend” is all about. The album is a concept piece, a chronological horror story digging into abuse, trauma, revenge, and madness passed down through generations.
The narrative follows Anton, a kid messed up by systemic cruelty, whose life goes from neglect and violence to ritualized murder in a circus setting and cult indoctrination. It starts as a social tragedy but twists into something far more grotesque: a generational curse, masked and played out in a carnival of death.
“God Complex” is track #3 on the album. The story behind it involves older school boys finding out about Anton’s mom’s “profession” and wanting to use her for their sick fun. They promised a big payoff for Anton if she hurt herself for their entertainment. She took the deal, hoping to give her son a decent life. That’s the setup for the video’s violence against Anton’s mother. It’s a dark ride.
“The Murder Trend” itself swings between cinematic instrumentals, no-holds-barred extreme metal, wild stylistic mixes, and theatrical bits that really push the story’s psychological breakdown. It’s got groove, it’s progressive, it’s violent as hell, but somehow, it leaves you with a twisted grin.
Lyrically, it doesn’t pull punches, and the narrative is explicit. “The Murder Trend” gives a grim look at how victims can turn into monsters, and how violence can spread like a disease in the modern world once it finds a symbol.
The album was mastered by Grammy Award-winner Svante Forsbäck and produced by Emma Award-winner Teemu Aalto. Anthony Hodju, founding member, wrote most of the music and all the lyrics. Rocktografia handled the photos, which look pretty wild.
Simply put, this is a modern horror story set to extreme metal.
