Grond Announce Lovecraft-Inspired Death Metal Concept Album – The Temple

Russian death metal band Grond is back. After a ten-year gap since their last full-length, Worship The Kraken, the group announced their new concept album, The Temple. It comes out April 30th, 2026, through Xtreem Music.

The album merges two distinct themes: the history of First World War German U-boat commander Otto Eduard Weddigen and H.P. Lovecraft’s underwater horror story, The Temple.

“Neither age nor submersion has corroded the pristine grandeur of this awful fane—for fane indeed it must be—and today after thousands of years it rests untarnished and inviolate in the endless night and silence of an ocean chasm.” – H.P. Lovecraft, The Temple

Heavy Riffs from the Abyss

Grond promises a massive, suffocating sound for this release. The tracks rely on heavy riffs, prominent bass lines, and the deep, guttural vocals of founding member Kist. Songs like “Rotten Himmel” and “Pour Le Merite” build a claustrophobic atmosphere that fits the underwater concept. Lead guitar work weaves through the rhythms, adding dark melodies to tracks like “U29” and cutting through the chaos of “Dreadnought.” The album closes with “Dark Solitude Of The Sea,” ending the record on a bleak, heavy note.
