Arizona Death Metal WYRMHAVEN Drops Seasons Of Gloom Debut, Streams Morning Star

Arizona death metal outfit WYRMHAVEN is dropping their debut full-length, Seasons Of Gloom, on May 29th. They’ve also released the first single, “Morning Star,” and you can stream it now.

Since forming in Tucson back in 2018, WYRMHAVEN has been dialing in their sound. They started with melodic death metal, but they weren’t afraid to pull in elements from progressive metal and metalcore. Early stuff had that Gothenburg feel, especially if you liked The Black Dahl Murder.

As they moved forward, they brought in more complex sounds. Think Gojira and Arsis for some of the newer influences. It shows a band that’s constantly refining their approach, and they’ve gotten pretty confident in a short amount of time.

Seasons Of Gloom is their first full-length. The band wrote it during a rough period of loss, but they kept pushing through. So the record mixes dark aggression with some real personal vulnerability. The songwriting is still catchy and focused. Songs like “Morning Star” have precise riffs and chugging that nod to early metalcore acts like Burnt By The Sun and Glass Casket. And then you have tracks like “Unrelenting Storms,” which is more mournful and links back to their earlier work.

Seasons Of Gloom is a manifestation of perseverance in light of the struggles that we have faced in this season of life,” the band states. “To us, this album is a recognition that something worthwhile can exist in spite of the many troubles growing around us. The music is deeper and more intricate than before, and we honed our writing process by both starting and finalizing everything as a live group. Lyrically, the songs carry a message of personal and inner struggle coupled with existential crisis, where rot, decay, and stagnation seep through every distorted syllable. A lot of people feel the gloom and sorrow of this season of humanity. We hope our music resonates with those who need it in the same way we needed to channel our own raw emotions while making it.”

Check out the new single, “Morning Star,” below:

Vocalist Steve Naemark says, “‘Morning Star’ is written from the occult perspective that our subconscious is the creator of the reality we perceive. The lyrics depict an undead army rising to pay tribute to The Lightbringer. In this context, that imagery is symbolic for serving yourself to become a more complete individual. Some parts of ourselves are not pleasant to know, and ‘Morning Star’ is about choosing not to lie to yourself.”

WYRMHAVEN produced Seasons Of Gloom themselves, with Ryan Bram (Gatecreeper, Spirit Adrift, Terminal Nation) also contributing to the production and engineering. Zack Ohren (Machine Head, Fallujah, Entheos, All Shall Perish) mixed and mastered the record. Adam Burke (Nightjar Illustrations) handled the cover art.

The album will be available on limited edition vinyl and digitally. You can preorder it now on the WYRMHAVEN Bandcamp page.
